  1. In a year, an average mouse will give at least 50-60 babies. Thus, if you see early signs of a mouse infestation, it is best to check it right now; otherwise, the situation can go quickly out of control.
  2. In ancient times, physicians advised that certain ants should be crushed into medications because they serve as an excellent cure for freckles and leprosy.
  3. Have you ever heard of a pest that will overwinter in your house but not reproduce? Yes, there is a pest like that – boxelder bugs. These bugs get their name from the boxelder tree because they live and feed on its leaves. They are very common in the eastern part of the United States.
  4. Voodoo wasps can turn caterpillars into zombies! When these wasps impregnate a caterpillar, they can produce as many as 80 eggs at a time. After the eggs hatch, the body fluids of the caterpillar serve as the primary food for these larvae. This phenomenon almost turns the caterpillar into a zombie.
  5. Have you ever seen house centipedes? The number of legs they have can vary anywhere between 15-177, but whatever the number, it’s always going to be an odd one. The interesting fact is that the front legs are not used to walk. Instead, they are used in paralyzing the prey by developing into venomous fangs and injecting venom into enemies.
  6. Did you know rats have been used throughout history to sniff out some very peculiar things like tuberculosis, bombs, and landmines? Yes, and they have also been utilized in several rescue and search missions.
  7. After copulation, the heads of the male praying mantis no longer exist! Do you know why? The female praying mantis bites it off. They either do it before the act or during the act to make impregnation even more likely.
  8. There are several reasons why we all hate houseflies but let us give you another one. These creatures do not have a mouth to chew or bite on things. So, they use their feet to taste everything, and when they find something suitable, they puke on it. Their vomit has the necessary enzymes to break down the components of the food. After the food particle has softened, the houseflies use their tongue to soak the food up.
  9. Have you heard of earwigs? There are a total of 25 species of them in the United States. They got their name from the myth that they enter people’s ears and then move up to their brains. However, it’s not true. But what is bizarre is when the male and female earwigs mate, they attach themselves with pincer-like structures. If you don’t disturb them, they can stay in that position for hours.
  10. The male fruit flies attract the females of the species by dancing and singing. Isn’t that so adorable!
  11. When the orb-web spider mates with the female, it leaves its genitalia inside the female after ejaculation. Other males can no longer mate with that female spider because the genitalia acts like a plug.
  12. Some ants explode themselves when they feel threatened or are under attack. When these ants explode, a yellow-colored goo comes out, and when it falls on the intruders, it either kills them or at least slows down their attack. The self-sacrifice of these ants protects their colonies, and they are nothing but minor workers.
  13. Ladybugs may seem harmless, but when they don’t find food and are starving, they feed on weaker members of their species.
  14. In a one-month life cycle, a single female head louse can lay as many as 300 eggs!
